Perhaps

Perhaps you wonder why you see so much furniture being painted and not so much sewing being done.  I would wonder if I were you.  You see, my first love is sewing and creating things with embroidery and fabric.  I have been doing just that for about 22 years.  I really love it and the joy it brings to me and those around me.  I feel free patterns are a way to give back to all of you who have been so supportive for so many years.  I have been so very blessed and now my lovely sister Grace Jewell has joined with me to create even more fun for you.

The truth is, like everywhere else, things are a bit hard and the patterns were producing as they should.  I now paint good quality furniture and offer it, so it can have a new life with someone wonderful.  It is helping and is still fufilling to my creative side.  I have found I quite enjoy the hunt for great pieces that are damaged and just need me to paint them. 

I hope to be able to go back to sewing really soon, in fact I am in the process of making five skirts for my grandchildren.  They are going to be so cute when done.  I will post a photo as soon as I have one.

In the meantime, this is the latest of the fun I am up too!

New Ornament Pattern #6

Why Did I Buy This

I want you to know why I choose some pieces, when clearly it would be easier to just pass on by and find something else.

I came across this Ethan Allen hutch from the 1950's that is filthy, beatup, dark and ugly.  I bought it anyway . . . as you can see I have a screw loose somewhere.  Things are stuck to it, pasted on, spilled on, just yucky . . . (my husband gave me the "are you kidding look").

This is the bottom of the hutch .  .  . so nice and clean, just ready to be made pretty?????

This is the top, a little cleaner, missing shelves, outdated and dirty . . .

This is a really rough piece but in good condition.  As I look at it, I too wonder what was I thinking.  In the end, it will be a beautiful Swiss Coffee by Glidden or a bit darker with perhaps Zen from Behr on the back wall.  Let me know what you think . . .

We should all be so Free

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with quilting or finishing furniture or even our everyday lives.  This just is about having fun and not being afraid to have fun.  This comedian was on Oprah and said "Control the things you can and let go of things you cannot control."  He learned this dance so when he was done speaking to a group of people he could connect with them and show them it is ok to have fun no matter what.  Everyone loves to dance but is afraid to make a fool of themselves.  I just laughed and laughed as I watched this.  Hopefully you will too!

Precious Things

This precious little double tray came into my life all brown and sad.  Now with a bit of sprucing up . . . ta da . . . it is just as cute as can be . . .

And then if that was not enough . . . I found this little darling and painted it Zen from Behr paint with primer and it captured my heart as well . . . how about yours . . .

Homemade Swiffer Duster

Look what I found at Little Dear Tracks Blogspot.  She swears by it and uses microfiber cloth from the car section at your store or a carwash.  Give a try, saving money is always in style!!

Now for the othe fun thing I found.  Cinnamon rolls baked in a 1/2 orange, hollowed out.  You just have to try this one.  Ozzing with frosting and goodness.  I can feel the calories as I dream of the yummieness of it all.  Here is the link for you.

A Little Finish

Here is the before and after for the Shabby Hutch.  Good bones on a piece makes everything easier.  Painting stationary panels top and bottom is a pain but the over all look is great.  Let me know what you think.  Be brave and just paint it.

I started with this

and ended up with this.

Interior color is Zen, Behr paint and primer all in one.

The Egg and Dart moulding is so beautiful on this hutch.

Original knobs painted black

The center drawer pull was broken so this was used in it's place.  The drawer opens fine with the two outer handles.

Pretty top door pulls with knob painted black.

I found a color I like better than the one shown here.  It is Glidden, Swiss Coffee, from Home Depot.
