Gray Storage Cabinet

I happened upon this at a yard sale the other day and have painted it light gray with slightly darker gray on the edges and accent points. It hold six regular plastic tubs for storage and has a drawer for all the other necessary things. Let me know what you think about it. I am just trying to branch out a bit.

Front Porch as Promised

I was just in one of those moods the other day and had this darling metal/wire three tiered garden shelf, so I put it in the corner of the front porch, stuck some plants, birdbouses, pumpkins and threw in a watering can for good measure and there you have 10 minute decorating for fall. What do you think? I like it.

The two trees were from a yard sale I went to. They did not work for their intended purpose but look gret here. The plant in the front is a shamrock from Great Grandmother, had it for 38-39 years now.

This is just a little top heavy with plants, I plan on fixing that today. maybe I can find something to put on or around the door . . . I will have to check the garage stash.

I just love the wire scallops on each shelf and the curly cue legs on this piece.

This is my trusty watering can, my stand by for decorating when nothing else works. I still need a cute door mat, less plants on to and something around the door. . . . . I will work on that and then the presto chango for Christmas . . .

The Good and The Bad of it All

These beautiful little angels are now sold. They were my very favorite of all my finds. They are only 2" tall and now they are going to live in someone else Christmas Memories for years. I am happy they have gone to a new home . . . but I miss them anyway . . .

To make myself feel better I have placed this darling wire corner stand by my front door and decorated it with plants, birdhouses and pumpkins. It really looks darling and I also placed two done shaped ivy trees in pots at the entrance to the porch. I will post a photo for that tomorrow. It looks nice when people come to pick up furniture now. I feel better . . .

I have finished this five drawer dresser. It has a rose marble top on it and is really just a lovely piece. It is not really large but I like it anyway.

It is about the height of a raised side arm on a sofa. 30" or so. It is so cute I almost had to keep this one. Love the french curves on the legs, well all over the darn place. This one is not yet sold, so I can dream of where in my home it would best fit!

I have found that I love painting furniture and having an antique booth. I go to the booth five days a week for a bit each day. I sell more when I spend a bit of time there. It feeds my soul, just as the designing patterns and working with fabric has. I miss the fabric but you will be the first to know when things are better and I can go back. I am going to have a larger booth soon . . .more painting to be done . . . I am getting painter's elbow . . . ouch! Have a blessed day with what every you choose to do . . .

Perhaps you wonder why you see so much furniture being painted and not so much sewing being done. I would wonder if I were you. You see, my first love is sewing and creating things with embroidery and fabric. I have been doing just that for about 22 years. I really love it and the joy it brings to me and those around me. I feel free patterns are a way to give back to all of you who have been so supportive for so many years. I have been so very blessed and now my lovely sister Grace Jewell has joined with me to create even more fun for you.

The truth is, like everywhere else, things are a bit hard and the patterns were producing as they should. I now paint good quality furniture and offer it, so it can have a new life with someone wonderful. It is helping and is still fufilling to my creative side. I have found I quite enjoy the hunt for great pieces that are damaged and just need me to paint them.

I hope to be able to go back to sewing really soon, in fact I am in the process of making five skirts for my grandchildren. They are going to be so cute when done. I will post a photo as soon as I have one.

In the meantime, this is the latest of the fun I am up too!

Why Did I Buy This

I want you to know why I choose some pieces, when clearly it would be easier to just pass on by and find something else.

I came across this Ethan Allen hutch from the 1950's that is filthy, beatup, dark and ugly. I bought it anyway . . . as you can see I have a screw loose somewhere. Things are stuck to it, pasted on, spilled on, just yucky . . . (my husband gave me the "are you kidding look").

This is the bottom of the hutch . . . so nice and clean, just ready to be made pretty?????

This is the top, a little cleaner, missing shelves, outdated and dirty . . .

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with quilting or finishing furniture or even our everyday lives. This just is about having fun and not being afraid to have fun. This comedian was on Oprah and said "Control the things you can and let go of things you cannot control." He learned this dance so when he was done speaking to a group of people he could connect with them and show them it is ok to have fun no matter what. Everyone loves to dance but is afraid to make a fool of themselves. I just laughed and laughed as I watched this. Hopefully you will too!

Homemade Swiffer Duster

Look what I found at Little Dear Tracks Blogspot. She swears by it and uses microfiber cloth from the car section at your store or a carwash. Give a try, saving money is always in style!!

Now for the othe fun thing I found. Cinnamon rolls baked in a 1/2 orange, hollowed out. You just have to try this one. Ozzing with frosting and goodness. I can feel the calories as I dream of the yummieness of it all. Here is the link for you.

A Little Finish

Here is the before and after for the Shabby Hutch. Good bones on a piece makes everything easier. Painting stationary panels top and bottom is a pain but the over all look is great. Let me know what you think. Be brave and just paint it.

I started with this

and ended up with this.

Interior color is Zen, Behr paint and primer all in one.

The Egg and Dart moulding is so beautiful on this hutch.

Original knobs painted black

The center drawer pull was broken so this was used in it's place. The drawer opens fine with the two outer handles.

Pretty top door pulls with knob painted black.

I found a color I like better than the one shown here. It is Glidden, Swiss Coffee, from Home Depot.

A Work in Progress

I started with this, dark beautiful china hutch with egg and dart molding.

I am working on this look. Off white on the outside and Zen from Behr on the inside. I love this Zen color and thought I might take a chance that someone else would love it too! I will have this finished tonight and then it will be off to Main Street Antique Mall in Mesa, AZ tomorrow. It is just beautiful. Let me know what you think.

1890's China Cabinet

My daughter and I came across this beautiful China Cabinet from the 1800-to early 1900's. It is just so beautiful and the cutwork behind the glass is still in one original piece. We just had to get it. It is polished up now and looks loved instead of neglected.

Check out the original knobs and details. It is just lovely and now for sale. Let me know if you are interested in having this in your home.

This beautiful table is very old and has been sold to a lovely lady for her home. I enjoy finding lovely pieces and matching them with new homes that will love them.

I hope everyone is doing Snowbound with me. Anne at Bunny Hill is such a great person. She smiles all the time and is just so very kind and talented. I met her at Fall Quilt Market a year ago and she just lights up the room. I made A Tisket A Tasket and now I am on Block 7 of Snowbound. I embroider them in Redwork and just love the look. I think supporting others in their endeavors is so important.

Finishing Furniture

As you can see, I perfer to paint in a white tone.

Hint One: Buy furniture with all the handles. Handles are expensive and can cost $4.00 each or more.

Hint Two: Use good paint brushes, not the one dollar throw away brush or roller. The marks from rollers and brush strokes are hard to remove.

Hint Three: Wash out your brush if it is a hot day, every 30 minutes or so and dry, start again.

Hint Four: Wipe the piece until it is clean and fresh. Remove all dust completely or it will be in the paint and try to fix that one . . .

Hint Five: Paint in one direction only, not back and forth

Hint Six: Use 120 grade sandpaper inbetween coats.

Hint Seven: Rinse out your painting rag after each wiping episode.

Hint Eight: Keep away from web paint

First, don't by painted furniture, if it is painted, sand it with a sander. Don't buy furniture from someone who smokes unless you want to leave the furniture outside for a month and then scrub it throurghly with a very strong cleaner, inside and outside and then let it sit some more. All residue from smoking must be removed and then put two Bounce in each drawer daily for a week, changes these everyday, spray with Fabreeze and hope for the best. It is easier to just donate furniture from a smoker than clean it.

I use Home Depot paint. I apply one to two coats of Gripper (like Kilz but will stick to any surface without sanding. I use a eggshell finish, custom mix Spice Delight BEHR paint. I am changing that to a bit more Ivory as for Shabby it is just a bit too white. I do one coat of this paint, sand the edges or wherever I think I am going to finish sanding, wipe with damp cloth to collect all dust between each coat. Do one more coat. Sometimes a third is needed to be sure it looks good. I sand light between coats. Allow 2 hours or more dry time between coats. Sand the edges one more time and wipe with a damp cloth. Apply one light coat of POLYACRYLIC varnish, allow to dry for one day. I have yet me master the matte finish that is so popular. I sell a lot of furniture doing just this.

I have a booth in Main Street Antique Mall, Mesa, AZ, that is currently 8' x 12" but is growing to 12" x 12" on the first of August. I am dong very well with this adventure since the patterns are a bit slow right now.

Let me know what you think of my change of direction. I do still sew but this makes money for my family. That was why I was doing Applique patterns. I really enjoy this and was not brave for a long time. Finally one too many things we are doing without and here I am on this fun adventure of painting and selling furniture. I would have dreamed this for myself. I have done a lot of things over the years but this is really fun!

I have to share, I found this great china cabinet from the 1890's. The knobs are original and the cabinet still locks with the original lock. It is beautiful and is in wonderful condition. It has been cleaned and polished till it shines. The cutwork for the glass in unbroken, unbelieveable for a piece this age. Now that it is presentable, it will be ready for sale but I want to keep this one.

I just loved this little footstool that has a box in it. It had been broken but we took care of that and gave it a nice off white paint coat, took off the really ugly cover someone had stapled on top of this, the original cover and here it is. Let me know what you think of it.

This is my shabby sofa table that was too new to put in the booth. We used Gripper to prime it and cover the shinny surface, perhaps it was a laminate. It was then painted off white and then varnished. The original knobs were gold so I sprayed them black. I love the legs, ever so shabby.

This is my metal stool, I just gave it a quick spray paint job and sanded it a bit. And this is my lovely round table for four. It was in bad shape but we just loved it a bit and now it is just as cute as can be.

I have always wanted to make furniture shabby but was not brave enough. Now I just trudge ahead and it seems to work out just fine.

Pedestal Tutorial

I have a few China plates that I just love and do not want to part with. I have found a way to enjoy them everyday. Now they bring me a bit of sunshine everytime I see them. I am using them in my Sewing Room, Bathroom, Entry, and for my plants. I am also going to use them when I have company to vary the heights of food, on the buffet. I can't wait to put fruit, cookies or finger foods on them.

China Pedestal

You will need:
One china plate

One candlestick

E6000 glue

Instructions
Hand wash plate and candlestick, towel dry. Mark center back of plate. If the plate is heavy, be sure to use a larger candlestick. Place glue all the way around the rim of the candlestick. With plate upside down, place top of candlestick in the center of plate back. Allow to dry for 24-48 hours.

You now have a unique pedestal for serving fruit, cookies, treats anytime you want. You can also place a plant on it. If done with bowls, you can use for food, as well. e6000 glue is very good. Nothing will be as cute as these on your table.

Not too Shabby

I just love the details in the legs of this table. It is elegant and a wonderful shabby look.

I have sanded just a bit to give it a worn look.

I am really liking the fine accents found in this piece. It was unusable as it was, stained and the veneer coming off. It was unpainted, so I sanded lightly, wiped it off and began painting with an off white paint. I tend to add to much paint when I paint but the finish is nice and I don't want paint chipping off each time you touch it.

The table is not blue, just a shadow. It should have a leaf but one was not available.

This dresser cleaned up nicely and sold the next day.

The Chiffarobe sold yesterday and the new shabby table will take it's place in the booth.

I did not think I could paint furniture but it is easy and fun. You just have to pay attention to what you are doing and have paint clothes. I am getting better and better at this!!

A Before and After

This little chest of drawers just screamed fix me please. It is now white with Fleur d' les knobs on each drawer. I just sanded and painted 3 times and then applied a polyacrylic varnish.

This precious beauty started out special with hot pink and forest green applied everywhere. I put Kilz on it, sanded, painted 3 times with gloss white, sanded between each layer, then put on 3 coats of varnish. I spray painted the knobs for the white dresser black. it is so fun to do this. I loved the details when I first saw it. There are 3 drawers behind the door in the center.

Branching Out

I have branched out into an Antique Mall Booth to keep me busy. I put some of my creations in the booth because I am allowed to be Shabby Chic. Another lucky find for me! I love the spool shelf and the scissor holder sticks. This is sturdy and even has a great handle for carrying around. It shined up nicely with Endust. I am anxious to put it to work.

Check out this cute antique wardrobe I found. It is just wonderful. It is not Oak but I love it just the same. It has original hardware, wheels and a key lock. The top trim needs to be repaired and a good cleaning done, then a bit of polish and we are ready to decorate with it!

Things Happening 'round Here

I have this darling bench on my patio and decided it needed a cute pad and pillows. I just traced the bottom of the bench to a large piece of paper, allowed for the ties where the arms attach and then transfered this to the wrong side of fabric, placed right sides together, placed batting, cut to the exact side as the fabric, together. I cut 3 pieces 1 1/2" x 18" for ties, folded them in half and then turned the edges to the center, stitched it on the machine. I placed the ties in between the rsf, stitched all the way around, leaving 8" at the center back for turning, turned, pressed, hand stitched opening closed and tied it down. The pillows were just left over fabric, cut into rectangles.

It is cute fun and just says Summer, Here I come!

Bias Rose Tutorial

It is time for another bit of fun!! Grab a bias strip, a piece of foundation and let's enjoy an new technique . . .

Bias Rose Tutorial

By Nancy Lindblom

Materials for one flower

1 1/4" x27" bias fabric strip

Foundation fabric

Fold one end under and place where you want the center of the flower. Place needle in down position through the fold, back stitch.

Now stretching some as you stitch, no tucks please, stitch through the center of the strip, turn, stitch again, forming a circle.

Repeat this until you almost come to the end of the strip, Place the second strip under the first and stitch, catching second strip, continue stitching until second strip is used.

Place end of second strip on top of first strip and back stitch in place.

All Done, Enjoy!

Getting Things done

I just finished this cute bag that just makes me smile. It goes to James Thompson, Ticking Fabric for Spring Market in MN. I have other projects in the works for them. This is great fabric! Lots of nice body and soft as well. They also make the Birdseye Diaper fabric. Check them out, get their free patterns too!!

I was thinking I was not getting much done but I counted my list and since January 1, 2010, I have completed 86 things. I was amazed.

I am on a weight loss program, self imposed, that is really going no where. For moral support, my Sweet Man showed up yesterday with a two pound box of See's Candy, hand picked only nuts! My very most favorite kind, YEAH!! So much for weight loss . . . you know that will add five plus pounds to my already beautiful waist line. Does anyone else have this problem? Care to share?? We are considering a gym month by month membership to help with the problem. I don't want exercise equipment hanging around with clothes on it, waiting for me to put it on Craig's List with everyone elses treadmill.

As Mother's Day approaches, I reflect on my own Mother. She cooked, cleaned and sewed her life away, mostly for my Dad and my brother and sisters. She gave all she had with great love to everyone. She was never too busy to help care for grandchildren, bring something to a friend or have a kind word. She loved to talk on the phone and read us what she was currently reading, like the Reader's Digest. She made wonderful Chicken Potholders that I hold dear (and will never use). She made prom dresses, wedding dresses and quilts. Most of the grandchildren have an afghan crocheted for them that was six feet long and five feet wide, so it would cover them when they grew up. She loved to laugh and go for rides. Most of all she just was a Great Mom. I read this quote and think of her . . . Happy Mother's Day Mom . . .

This is a wonderful Easter Morning! The temperature is a balmy 65 at 7:30am and the flowers are blooming. We went to a beautiful Easter Pagent this week that stirred our hearts. The Mesa Temple Easter Pagent is attended by our family each year, it is a tradition that has gone on for 20 years. We have an easter egg hunt while there. The children love it.

Creative Cleanup

Oh the sewing room cleanup and neatness goes on. A bit more progress has been made and that is what I am showing you today. It is slow but coming along. I decluttered the shelves of buttons and ribbons. Now my cute things are where I can enjoy them. I have removed the rick rack from the wall units and wrapped them around an old wooden spool and placed them in a drawer. The ribbon has claimed the top drawer and is no longer on the wooden shelf. Out of sight is peaceful. I already find I can get more done. As I took pics of the finish, I realized, I really was not finished at all. The neatness continues with more drawers and less things to deal with . . . wish me luck

Sewing Room Rearrange

Photography can be such an embarrassment. It seems you see all you don't really see when there is a photograph to display everything. I try to keep my space straightened up but sometimes, life happens and this is the result . . . chaos . . . so I am giving you an honest look at where I am currently stitching away. It isn't pretty or neat but it functions . . . I am opting for a larger surface for sewing, it will help with the quilting and a much smaller surface for cutting as I just pile things on this surface and make a big mess . . . so this is the before I rearranged and cleaned . . . I assure you it will function better in a couple of days with the new to me sewing table/desk and cutting table. Everything will be a better size for the space . . . all I need

to do is sand the table/desk and get it painted . . .

The current cutting table will go to the kitchen and the kitchen table will come to the sewing room and become a cutting table with a larger top on it but certaintly not as large as I currently have, which is huge.

The new to me desk with make a huge sewing surface not a tiny one like I now have. It is a lot of work but will be well worth the effort to accomplish neatness again.

I have decided to try a new pattern out and see how it is recieved by the public. I am making Steering Wheel covers. Here is an example of a couple that I have finished. What do you think? The black is a little dark but it is the shade that matters in AZ. Love the red. Would you perfer one that matches your personality or one that matches your car?? This is something I need to know. Sedona Villiage

This beautiful fountain is one of the center pieces of a quaint villiage in Sedona. We ate Lunch at the Brewery as that was the only place to find pizza for the Grandchilren.

I found everything there just enchanting and beautiful. It is a cross between the streets of Italy and Mexico if that is possible. Balcony's with French Doors that open, upstair shops, fountains everywhere, flowers, statues and such beautiful trees that are so very old.

The lovely granddaughters that accompanied us on our journery. They has not been to this area before and were anxious for an outing, it is Spring Break! Mom came as well and did a bit of shopping in Sedona. What a fun Day!!

Oak Creek Canyon

This wood bench is priceless. It weighs a ton, really!

Just look what we found in Oak Creek Canyon. An enchanting little wayside stop that has been there forever. Original windows and stone work are all evident as soon as you drive up.

This sign is priceless. We just had to find out what was there, besides there was a necessary stop to be made. It is made of stone and has real screen doors if you can believe that!

There were planters filled with Daffidols and Panseys. It was just fun and authentic.

This tree was just across the highway from our wayside stop.

This is Me and Sweet Man by Oak Creek.

This show how full the creek is and how darling my grandchildren are, of course.

The images of the Red Rocks is stunning. Everywhere in Sedona, AZ are red rock pillars and greenery. This is just an example of what awaits you there.

Beautiful Jumping Cactus in bloom.

This is a small fountain we saw.

This is one of the many fountains we saw there. There is an emblem of the chapel outline in the fountain foundation.

This bush almost looks like Bonzi.

This beautiful home is just below the Chapel built into the cliffs. A telescope opens on the roof so the owners can view the stars uninterupted. There is a waterfall at the end of the home by the trees that flows into a pool to the left of the photo. Just a lovely home to view.

Alas there was no stop at the quilt shop there but wonderful memories were made instead.

Garden Flowers

I have been putting in a garden and fixing the rose/flower garden and time has just slipped away. I did make these two potholders and am working on a quilt top as well. The potholders are part of the Take No Prisioners I am doing. So far, not many scraps hanging around.

Black Magic is the name of this beautiful Valentine's Day rose from my Sweet Man. It is the first bloom and is just beautiful!

I found this old fence that reminded me of my Grandmother's fence and just had to have it. The peas are climbing up it and doing quite nicely. I love the vintage look in the garden.

Can't wait for the peas to be ready . . . YUMMY!!!

I stopped at the cutest flower shop today, Camelback Flowers. Wow! There shop looks like a little flower workshop plucked right out of Paris.Their arrangements are wonderful and skillfully made. I met the three designers that were there and they are amazing. I love the orange door and the cozy feeling of the 1920's building. The flowers they are working with are on their way to a wedding, doesn't it just make you want to get married? Just kidding! I love Sweet Pea's and Hydrangra's. They are situated on Camelback in the 4200 block. There are several of these quaint white buildings, each housing a unique shop with wonderful treasures. Hope you enjoyed the tour of one of the amazing shops. Stop by and drink in the beauty of this little shop of garden pleasures.

Red and Black Quilt Tote

This rather large quilt tote got side tracked about a year ago and I finally decided that a finish was needed. It is roomy enough to haul your grandchildren around in or even a baby and the diaper bag. It easily holds two quilts for show and tell. There are 4 pockets on the inside. The two largest ones have large snaps. Two more on the outside with large snaps ot hold them shut as well.

I sure enjoyed making the twisted fabric flowers that are on each outside pocket. I put pearls on it to give a a bit of a shine. Another finish, I am off to a good start and my UFO pile is growing smaller . . . how is yours doing?

Vintage Tablecloth Project Jacket

I just love this jacket! It fits well and is a Simplicity pattern. It only has a silky lining as it is quite warm where I live and more than that would not allow me to wear it much. I am on the lookout for more tablecloths that have a nice repeating pattern. This had 10-12 clusters of flowers on it. I have used up all of the scraps and thus is qualifies for a take not prisioners finish.

Vintage Tablecloth Projects 2

I made this key fob just for fun, the clasp swivels. It has yoyo's on both sides.

This Snap Purse has been stippled and a stiff pellon was used inbetween the lining and outside. This vintage tablecloth has gone a long way.

This Snap Purse was quilted around the flower design and a thin cotton batting was used between the lining and outside.

I was rattling around in an Antique Mall in downtown Mesa the other day and found a wonderful tablecloth. This cute purse is from the leftovers. It has a cute phone holder inside on a clip so it can be removed. It is becoming my favorite with the flower on the front!

Aqua Needle Wallet

This is the usual embroidery mess I work with. The needle wallet will be a better fit for me.

Are you tired of the Aqua fabric yet?? I am getting there. I made this needle wallet so that it would be able to hold embroidery on a hoop plus your thread, needles, scissors, markers, thimble, seam ripper, etc. It is not too big for the car or sofa in the evening and everything stays neat and tidy . . .

Rain on the Windows Quilt

Since I am taking no prisoners, this is some of the fat quarter pieces I had left when I finished my Bluework Quilt. I tried some different quilting with this one and it worked pretty well. This was a fun quilt to make with lots of variation in color with batiks and cottons mixed together.

I have enough left over to make a nice tote bag and of course a pincushion.

New Girl in Town

Well, it seems that I have a new girl in town. I tried a dog, my daughter has cats but I just felt like a bird might be the answer. We always had parakeets at home growing up. Usually green or blue and they would fly about the house and peck the window sill, eat my Mom's plants and most of all, sit by my Father's dinner plate and eat his mashed potato's. It was such fun until the little thing got sucked up in the vacuum when my siblings were messing around. He just never recovered after that.
Now for a name for this little one . . . any suggestions? My families birds were always Pete or Petie. This one is a girl and needs a girl name . . . help me out so I can award a prize of 3 fat quarters from Amy Butler fabrics.

I can't wait to see what is suggested.

A Double Finish

I pieced the scraps from the Cheery Table Runner and Potholders together and then cut a circle, gathered that up, put crushed walnut shells in it and topped it off with Poly-fil. I then cut 2 pieces of green wool about 3" x 5", cut leaves on opposite ends, made a slit in the center, pulled it over the clothes pin end, hot glued leaves slightly. Next I cut a circle about 2" across and scalloped the edges like a flower, made a slit in the center and pulled that over the clothes pin. I stitched the last three strips, it made a strip about 7" long and 7" wide. I stitched the ends together to form a circle, then pressed it in half, turning the ends under 1/8". Now gather the bottom ends on the machine with a long stitch. Pull threads up tight. Using a strip of batting, hot glue batting over the clothes pin post, measure the clothes pin post and cut a strip 1/2" wider than the post and 1/2" taller. Press one long end of the strip under 1/8". Wrap it around the post and hand stitch down. Tuck the top ends under and stitch that closed as well. Hot glue a piece of rick rack to cover from the bottom on one side, across the top and back down the other side. Place the gathered piece over the post and pull threads snug. Tie threads off and hot glue bottom to top of pincushion. That will help it stay open for you thread, bobbins or thimble.

Needle Wallet and Pincushion. I just took left over strips and stitched them together with a red strip on the sides. The outside case is about 12" x 8". Stitch a piece of rick rack across the strips. Cut two pieces of ribbon about10" long and place them at the side center as they will tie the Needle Wallet closed. Cut one thin cotton batting and one lining to match the outside piece. Place right sides of lining and outside together with the batting against the outside. Now stitch all the way around, leave opening for turning, clip corners and turn right side out. Stitch opening closed. Cut two pockets 9" x 8". Fold in half and stitch around leaving an opening for turning. Hand stitch to each inside cover. With Pinking Shears cut 6-pieces, 7" x 5". Place two 1/2" down from the top and up from the bottom, place the last two in the center. Machine stitch through the center, lining it up with the center of the outside. Cut 2 10" ribbons and stitch them above each pocket to hold scissors or thread. ALL Done.

Fourteen Years to a Finish

Proof that it really is from 1996! I saved the selvage for my crazy sister.

It is hard to imagine that I have left this beautiful quilt top hanging in my closet for fourteen years. It is a long story but the short version is that in 1995, when air fare was $20.00 to San Diego, I would go once a month or so to see my sister that lives there and teach classes a local quilt shops. We would of course shop while there and do projects. It was a wonderful time that I have just the best memories of. Well, the weekend of this project, we were shopping and she purchased all the fabrics for a top for her and I. I sewed them up and then went home. Hers is still awaiting quilting, I just checked. I got mine out a couple of days ago and found a back and now it is quilted around each figure, star and flag. I could have sent it to the sister that does longarm quilting but I wanted it to be like I would have done it then. I think it turned out well. It will be shown at my quilt club this Friday and then it will go to be hung for a while at our new Carwash. I should have finished this so long ago and then I would not have felt guilty each time I saw it in the closet. How many tops are haunting you???

Bluework Wallhanging Done

This bluework has been such fun! I really enjoyed finishing each block, even though I am ahead of schedule. I chose the aqua/turquoise fabrics to blend with the floss I choose. I wanted a touch of this in my bedroom to brighten it up.

I quilted squares around each block and then in the borders. It did not take very long but used up a lot of thread . . . I only had to unpick a little bit. It measures 33" x 48". I had just the right wall to put it on. I still need to put the hanging sleeve on the back but that will only take a few minutes in the evening.

This project has been a joy and I just smile each time I gaze in it's direction. Thank you for being patient and following me as I completed the wall hanging . . you are the best!

Now to use up the extra fabric in the Take No Prisioners Plan . . . watch and see what I create now . . .

He has two sweethearts you know . . . beautiful JoAnn, to whom he was married for Forty-Eight years and now me. We are both so very fortunate to have found this wonderful man.

Finished Purse

I am so blessed to have had my sister make this purse for me at the Sister Party. She actually made one for all of the sisters. I just had to stitch on the handles and buttons. My choice of buttons makes it look like a face, perhaps I should change them out . . . :-) It has two roomy pockets which I velcroed shut and also a velcro closer. I stitched the top ends in a bit to help square the purse. Now I just need to cut a bottom for it and I am off to the fabric store for some fun!!

A Little Finish

With the current, Take No Prisioners, thing I have going on, this is the last of the fabric from the Irish Chain fabric. I can't believe I have actually used it all up. Yeah!!! I stuffed this little pincushion with crushed walnut shells and a bit of fiberfil . . . I love it . . .

I am so excited! I finished the last block and now can cut them to size and put the top together . . . YEAH!!! and ahead of even my schedule . . . they are so pretty, I just love them . . .

What a mess

It's true I am a messy office person as you can see. I am working on projects and just come in here, check the computer and then do only what needs to be done and then back to the sewing room . . . I resolved to clean up this mess today and I have made some progress. I have another hour before I can sew but at least I won't cringe each time I pass by the office door. Does anyone else do this or am I the only one with the sickness? It feels so much better already . . .

I am excited that I only have the June block to finish now. It has a bit more to it so it will be a couple of days before this is done. My Turquoise/blue fabrics awaits the blocks. It will be such a feeling of accomplishment when it is done and added to the list.
